Cooking Up a Dish of Healthy with Uncle Ben's

It's not easy trying to please a picky seven year old, but I've got a few tricks up my sleeve when it comes to healthy eating!

If you have a picky eater in your home you know how tough it can be to get your child to eat healthy. It's really difficult when they are between five and twelve. Kids don't like the H word. They'd rather eat junk all day. My grandson was that way until I discovered a few tricks and made healthy eating fun.

Disguise: Kids won't eat anything if they think it's healthy for them. One way I ensure Cameron will eat healthy is to put cheese on everything! He loves cheese and I always make sure I use 2% milk-enriched cheese. He gets his vitamins and I get peace of mind.

Create: Kids love to be creative. Most kids love to color,why not turn meal time into coloring time. Take an assortment of healthy veggies (different colors) and let your child create a healthy masterpiece. Your child will have fun and you won't have to worry about them eating their veggies.

Encourage: Encourage your child to be involved in all aspects of meal time. My grandson loves to shop and he loves to cook. If you make your child part of the process you can teach them the importance of eating and being healthy.

Show: Kids learn by example, not by telling. If you want your children to eat healthy, then you have to set the example. Kids love to play follow the leader. Be a health leader. Lead them to the dinner table. Lead them to a healthier lifestyle. Lead them to be healthy kids!

 My grandson loves rice and one of his favorite dishes in rice and cheese. It's quick and easy to make and I don't have to worry about him cleaning his plate or feeding his food to the dog. Uncle Ben's Rice is quick, easy and healthy and a great way to start your child on the right track.

I'll confess: I'm the picky eater in our home. But I'm getting better, and my wife is great at hiding the healthy. :)
