Angels - Children's Book by Alexis York Lumbard Review

Posted by Debra Gray-Elliott at 9:01 PM 0 comments

Do you believe in angels? I do and so does my grandson. Angels are everywhere and Angels brings them to life in this delightful and beautifully illustrated children's book. I recently lost my daughter and my grandson was very close to his aunt and when she passed away I couldn't find the words, but this book arrived and no words were needed when he ask me if his Aunt Michelle was an angel.

Although this book is written for toddles, my entire family found it heartwarming and a special read.

Product Description
Did you know that angels of all kinds are everywhere? “Some are big, some are tiny. They're all so bright and very shiny.” This lyrical, breezy, and nondenominational picture book introduces children and adults to a magical place which radiates warmth, love, and caring throughout its colorful and delicate pages. With its rich paintings, readers are transported through many colorful scenes, places and seasons to see how angels work behind everything, weaving their graces throughout the world.

Through Angels, readers can experience a world of gentle wonder, beauty, and comfort that makes this a perfect bedtime story. “Angels, angels, always near, protecting you, my special dear!

While searching their dusty attic, Mike and Amy uncover an old wooden chest with a mysterious lock. Inside, they find magical red shirts that give them special powers. Together with a new friend, Sam, Mike and Amy must figure out how to harness their new found gifts while keeping them secret from their parents. As their powers grow, they begin a search for two kids who had gone missing in the summer, pitting them against a powerful adversary with mystical powers of his own. Back To School With Claritin #sponsored

Posted by Debra Gray-Elliott at 5:21 PM 0 comments
Disclosure: "As a member of the Children’s Claritin Mom Crew, I receive product samples and promotional items to share and use as I see fit. No monetary compensation has taken place and any opinions expressed by me are honest and reflect my actual experience."

It's back to school time and Fall allergies are lurking everywhereClaritin wants to help parents relieve seasonal allergies with a great non-drowsy formula so your kids won't miss out on all the fun-filled Fall activities.

As a Claritin mom, I received great Back to School "Survival Kits" and seasonal allergy tips to share with my readers.

Claritin's Back To School Allergy Tips:

  • Be sure to have Children’s Claritin, the #1 pediatrician-recommended non-drowsy allergy brand, on hand!
  • Multi-vitamins are building blocks to having a strong immune system. Make taking a multi-vitamin part of your child’s daily routine.
  • Let there be light! Mold doesn't like sunlight, so try to keep your curtains open during the day. Should be easy during the summer months!
  • Did you know that most pillows trap allergens, dust mites, and bacteria? Monitor the cleanliness of the pillow your child with allergies sleeps on and replace if necessary.
  • Back to school season means lots of laundry for many moms. Be sure to remove laundry from the washing machine promptly. Allowing wet clothes to sit in the washer means mold can quickly grow there.
  • Monitor pollen counts and adjust outdoor before and after school activities accordingly. Dry, windy days can be particularly high in pollen.
  • Showering or bathing at the end of the day as opposed to the morning can be helpful in removing allergens from body surfaces and hair.
  • Stay hydrated! Always send your child to school with a bottle of water. Drinking lots of clear fluids through the day can help get rid of toxins and flush out body.
  • Peak pollen production typically occurs in early morning, so try to plan outside activities at other times of the day.

Everybody Can Help Somebody Review and Giveaway #sponsored #tommymommy

Posted by Debra Gray-Elliott at 7:38 AM 6 comments
Disclosure: I received a product in exchange for this review. However all opinions are my own.

Everybody can help somebody—even you!
"I used to spend a lotta time worryin' that I was different from other people . . .
But I found out everybody’s different—the same kind of different as me.”
Little Denver grew up very poor, and he didn’t get to go to school. As time passed, Denver decided to hop a train to the big city for a different life. But that life was difficult, and Denver spent many years as a homeless man. But God showed His love through two people who were very different from Denver.
Based on Same Kind of Different As Me, the emotional tale of Denver Moore’s life story, this unique children’s book includes Denver’s original art. Parents and children alike will be moved by this powerful story and will never forget the unexpected and life-changing things that can happen when we help somebody.
"Nobody can help everybody, but everybody can help somebody.
I was excited by this month's selection for Tommy Nelson Kids when I saw Everybody Can Help Somebody was listed. This is a great book to teach your child the true meaning of helping others. My grandson learned valuable lessons from reading this heartwarming book. Although it's geared for ages 4-8, I think every child should read this one.

Everybody Can Help Somebody
*ages 4-8
*An encouraging retelling for children of the New York Times bestselling Same Kind of Different As Me
*Heart-tugging story that will help children see that they can make a difference in others' lives
*Teaches kids to make friends with others who are different than them
*Original art by Denver Moore and Ron Hall

Everybody Can Help Somebody is available for $14.99 or you can enter to win your own copy on the Rafflecopter below.

September is Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month #suicideprevention

Posted by Debra Gray-Elliott at 12:00 AM 0 comments

USC’s MSW Programs Blog Day.

September is Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month, and we hope that you will join us in raising awareness. On September 10, 2013, the World Health Organization and the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) will co-sponsor World Suicide Prevention Day. To commemorate this day, the MSW@USC invites you to participate in the Suicide Awareness Blog Day.
If you are a blogger who has a personal story or if you are someone advocating for suicide prevention or mental illness in your work, consider sharing it to let others know they are not alone.
  • Are you or a family member or friend a survivor of suicide?
  • Do you work for an organization that supports the prevention of suicide?
  • Have you personally participated in a walk or awareness campaign to prevent suicide?
  • Do you have an inspirational story to share around this issue?
Starting September 10, share a link to your blog in our comment section or our Facebook page, and we may feature you in a roundup at the end of the month. Suicide impacts entire communities — no matter who you are or what you normally blog about, we want to hear your story, so we can highlight the importance of raising awareness around suicide prevention.

Everyone is welcome to participate! Here’s how:

  1. Publish a blog post that incorporates a suicide prevention theme. Mention why raising awareness about this issue matters.
  2. Include a link back to our blog campaign description so that your readers can learn how they can raise awareness, too.
  3. Place the “Blogging for Suicide Prevention” badge on your post or site using the html code provided below.
  4. Share your blog post for suicide prevention on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #suicideprevention.
  5. Check out our Suicide Awareness Roundup to read, engage and follow bloggers participating in the campaign.
  6. Important Note: Please provide a trigger warning if you include any traumatic experiences or images in your blog post.
