All-In 2 Night by Lynn Burgess Book Review

Posted by Debra Ann Elliott at 1:10 PM 0 comments
Disclosure of Material: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookCrash.com book review program, which requires an honest, though not necessarily positive, review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s CFR Title 16, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

If  you're like me, you probably don't have enough time in the day to spend quality time with your kids or maybe you're kids are too busy for you! Whatever the reason, there's now a great solution: All-In 2 Night by Lynn Burgess.

Most families spend more time in front of the computer, television, video game, or cell phone than together. Lynn's book brings family's back together for 40 weeks, one night a week, ten to twenty minutes with great family together activities. Some of the activities include love languages, listening for God, self-esteem, the fruits of the spirit and many more.

I know my family has grown apart due to technology, but just spending 1 night a week focused on "family" has brought us closer together.

This is the perfect family "activity" book for parents with kids ages 2-10. If you're family has drifted apart, All-In 2 Night by Lynn Burgess is the glue that will bring it back together.

You can pick up a copy at Amazon, B&N and other online stores. Be sure to check out All-In 2 Night  on FB

Liz Tames a Dragon (and her Anger) Book Review

Posted by Debra Ann Elliott at 3:36 PM 1 comments
Disclosure: I received a copy for review. However, all opinions are my own.

Kids get angry and sometimes have a hard time controlling their anger. With most kids it's frustration that leads to anger. Other times it can be a variety of more serious issues. Whatever the reason for their anger Author Stephanie Painter has written a wonderful children's book that will help any child conquer their anger.

In Liz Tames a Dragon, Liz gets so anger she turns into a dragon, but once she learns how to tame the dragon and her anger she returns to normal. My grandson gets angry a lot and I was so thankful Stephanie contacted me. Liz Tames a Dragon is the perfect book for any child who has an inner dragon and also a great parenting tool. As a parent, I'd recommend this book to any parent whose child has anger issues(which is a normal emotion).

This book couldn't have come at a better time for me and my grandson. After the death of my youngest daughter, my grandson had a lot of anger and Liz Tames a Dragon showed him how to tame his persona; dragon.

Included also is an Activity Guide for Parents and Child Therapists by Marlo Carney Zarzaur, Ed.D., includes art, games and activities that will help kids learn how to verbalize their emotions and recognize physical cues of anger.

We give Liz Tames a Dragon (and her Anger)  two thumbs up and 5 stars!

Liz Tames a Dragon (and her Anger)  written by Stephanie Painter and illustrated by artist Jeanne Seagle is available for $13.95 at Bright Kids Books.

Description:
Anger is a normal emotion, but one that can be difficult to learn to control. The picture book Liz Tames A Dragon (and her anger) will help children find healthy ways to manage their angry feelings. In the story, Liz finds that sharing life with a sister isn't always easy. She becomes so angry that her anger morphs her into a fire-breathing dragon. Liz is certain that her sister has cast a magic spell until she realizes only she has the power to tame this dragon. Watercolor illustrations by artist Jeanne Seagle capture the character’s anger, confusion, and cooperative actions that lead to peacemaking.

My Friend Jesus Book Review and Giveaway- #sponsored #giveaway #tommynelsonmommy

Posted by Debra Ann Elliott at 6:50 AM 31 comments
Disclosure: I'm a Tommy Nelson Mommy and received a copy for review. However, all opinions are my own.

As a Christian parent and grandparent, I want my children and grandson to know Jesus. My grandson is almost a pre-teen and to me Jesus is the most important person in his life right now. He's getting to the point where peer pressure is starting and without Jesus, he would be lost.

My Friend Jesus by Kathryn Slattery takes kids on a personal journey with Jesus. My grandson has a lot of Christian books in his collection, but this book in my opinion is the most important book he'll ever read. My Friend Jesus is 5 stars and two thumbs up in this grandma's book.

For  ages 5-10 My Friend Jesus helps parents share the Good News with their children and lead them to a lifetime relationship with Christ. This wonderful book also Invites children to know how much God loves them in words they can understand.

My Friend Jesus is available from Thomas Nelson for $12.99 or you can enter to win a copy on the Rafflecopter below.

A prayer at the end of the book guides children into that life-changing friendship with Jesus. This is the book author Kathryn Slattery wishes she had when her own children were young—which is the reason she wrote it!

“It’s one of the best books of Jesus for young people I have encountered.”  —Madeleine L’Engle, Newberry Medal–winning author of the bestselling children’s classic A Wrinkle in Time
“Kathryn Slattery has told the story so simply, briefly, cutting right to the essentials, managing to mix the profoundest truth with humor, talking to children without talking down to them. The Gospel for Kids goes on our grandparent bookshelf with great anticipation.”  —Elizabeth and John Sherrill, coauthors of bestselling inspirational classics The Hiding Place and The Cross and the Switchblade
“A magnificent piece of writing, making the Gospel so plain and at the same time losing none of its beauty. The book is very attractive for adults also.”  —Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, author of the international bestseller The Power of Positive Thinking and founder of Guideposts magazine

Book Trailer

The Early Buzz

"The Adventures of Lovable Lobo: Lobo's Howliday is a children's book written by C.L. Murphy. Lobo and his friend Roxy, the raven, are surprised when an owl comes to see Lobo with a special delivery. Within the bag is Arty, an Arctic mouse who has an urgent request from Santa. Santa needs Lobo's help this year, and the three of them set off for the North Pole. Along the way, they meet an Arctic fox, who lets them stay the night in his den and a polar bear who transports them across icy water. An Arctic wolf accompanies them for the rest of the journey to Santa's Village, where an Arctic hare is waiting for them. Santa has updated his method of delivering gifts on Christmas, but he's got a problem that Lobo can help him with. I was spellbound reading The Adventures of Lovable Lobo: Lobo's Howliday. C.L. Murphy's artwork is simply amazing. Each page is filled with images you can get lost in: lush green forests, sparkling night skies, snowy expanses, and the animals have personality and incredible appeal. If you're lacking in Christmas spirit this year, no matter what your age, spending some time with Lobo, Roxy, and Arty will soon change your attitude. Lobo's Howliday is also a great way to introduce a child to the Northern Lights, the Arctic, and the amazing animals that live there (see if you can find the Orca!). I've already recommended The Adventures of Lovable Lobo: Lobo's Howliday to friends who have children or grandchildren. It's a very special book." ~ 5 Star Review, Jack Magnus, Readers Favorite

About the Author: C.L. Murphy

C.L. Murphy and Lovable Lobo C.L. Murphy and Lovable Lobo. While new to the children's book writing and illustrating scene, C.L. has been doodling her way through life since she won a school wide poster contest in the third grade. She's had the pleasure of working as an artist in residence, creating cartoons and painting murals with the children at local elementary schools. She adores the wonder and curiosity of young children. For years, she filed picture book ideas away, until the reality of the empty nest syndrome sunk in and she decided to bring her favorite one to fruition. She based the character, Lovable Lobo, on something very dear to her heart, a real wolf that she's raised for the last 13 years. She's felt the need to protect him his entire life, primarily due to the preconceived notions that wolves are to be feared. She lives amongst the wildlife in an enchanted forest in the beautiful Oregon wilderness. She has always appreciated nature and animals have always played a major role in her life. She was that little girl who brought home the strays asking "Can we please keep it?" At an early age she realized her connection with animals by training a wild bluejay to appear on command to take food from her hand. Check out her book series and discover that you, too, will find Lobo lovable.

Disclosure: I received a copy for review. However, all opinions are my own.

As a grandparent and writer, I love discovering great kid lit especially in my own backyard. TJ Put Your Phone Away is written by two local teachers physical education teacher Blake Gilchrist, and his wife, Erin, who co-authored and illustrated their new children’s book.

TJ Put Your Phone Away tells the story of a middle school kid who misses life because he's glued to his cell phone. Parent's can relate to this book as well. Kids today seem to be glues to their cell phone and parents can learn a valuable lesson as well.. My grandson loves this book and we give it two thumbs up and five stars.

You can read the Gilchrists' story here. Also, be sure to check out TJ Put Your Phone Away FB page.

T.J. Put Your Phone Away is a MUST HAVE for a family in 2013. The authors of the book say... "It's for people, like us, overwhelmingly consumed with our handheld devices, social media, and communications via internet, that we often forget human interaction and what it's like to live off-screen." -Erin Gilchrist Ph.D. "The small lessons that can be taught to a child about manners, paying attention to the people you love, the respect of personal interactions, and the importance of relationships, are lessons that we all need to be reminded of, no matter the age." -Blake Gilchrist Follow TJ on twitter: @TJPhoneAway
