VTech Grandparent's Day and VTech CareLine Blog Tour Campaign - #VTechCareLine #sponsored

Posted by Debra Gray-Elliott at 12:00 AM 0 comments
Disclosure: This is a compensated post. I recieved a VTech’s SN6197 phone to review from VTech as well as monetary compensation. However, all opinions are my own.

I'm excited to be chosen to participate in the VTech CareLine Blog Tour Campaign. As a grandparent, I think it is important to have a safe way to stay in touch. When I recieved the VTech’s SN6197 phone I couldn't wait to try it out.

If you're like me or have an elderly parent who struggles with using the phone because of small buttons or safety issues such as worrying about falls, then VTech’s SN6197 is the perfect phone to use!

I have fibromyalgia and a lot of steps in my house. There a lot of days when I am by myself and afraid of taking a tumble down the stairs, but with my new  SN6197 I feel safe and secure.

Here are a few of the great features of the SN6197 to keep your loved one safe and sound.

  • Complete System: The CareLine™ Corded/Cordless Answering System with Pendant makes it easy to communicate with family and friends, while a portable safety pendant puts you in touch with the help you want—from anywhere in your home.
  • Portable Safety Pendant: Everyday conversations and emergency calls are just a speed-dial button away. Wear it around your neck or clipped to your waistband for the most mobility at home.
  • Voice Amplification: Increase the volume of incoming sound by up to 40 decibels so conversations are easier to hear and understand.
Additional features include:
  • No monthly monitoring fees. This is a great feature for someone on a fixed income or tight budget.
  • Voice Announce Caller ID.  This feature is awesome for those who can't see well.
  • Big buttons and large displays. Another great feature I love!
  • Photo speed dial. This feature lets you add personal touches with photo speed dial.

Grandparent's Day is September 7th, what better way to say I love you, than giving piece of mind and safety to your loved one than a VTech  SN6197 for protection and piece of mind.

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post via MomBuzz.

Does your kid struggle with learning? If you answered yes, then you need to check out Kid's Academy and enter to win a $100 amazon.com gift card.

Kid's Academy is all about helping children learn verbal, writing and math skills in an easy and fun manner. Apps such as 123 Tracing and Bingo ABC have been top-50 educational apps in the App Store, and Kid’s Academy has also brought the well-known stories and nursery rhymes The Three Little Pigs and Five Little Monkeys to life with interactive apps. The simple interfaces of the apps allow children to take the reins and play on their own, but the sing-a-longs and other activities are perfect for parent or teacher engagement, as well. Research has shown that singing along with nursery rhymes has cognitive and physical benefits for children. Not only are children learning new words and the context in which to use them, but strengthening tongue and mouth muscles at an early age will help with pronunciation skills.

Kids Academy is hosting an awesome giveaway!  Head over, download the app, and write a review in the App Store.  At the end of August, Kids Academy will randomly choose 2 lucky winners who will each win a $100 Amazon gift card!  Sweet!
2. Write a short honest review on the iTunes App Store. If you have already reviewed this app, simply update your review and you will be entered!

The app is available for download in US, Canada, Australia, and the UK.  All can enter the giveaway.

The last day to enter the giveaway is 8/31.

Happy learning and good luck!

Keep Momming

Posted by Debra Gray-Elliott at 6:57 AM
Disclosure: “I participated in a campaign on behalf of  Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Shire. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.”

Raising a child at any age is challenging, and when it comes to mothers and daughters, the dynamic can be even more complex. What some may dismiss as “typical tween girl behavior” can sometimes be symptoms of something more serious. Research suggests that girls are more likely than boys to report having mostly inattentive Attention- Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms. Since inattentive symptoms can be less noticeable than hyperactive and impulsive symptoms, it is important that moms know what to look for.

That’s why I’m pleased to be joining Shire, CHADD and Holly Robinson Peete to announce the launch of keep momming, a new public service initiative geared towards the moms of tween girls to raise awareness of ADHD.

The campaign is anchored within a new digital hub, KeepMomming.com, where you’ll find tips, tools and other go-to resources for moms, including a checklist to help recognize the symptoms of ADHD – inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity – and then encourages moms to talk to their daughter’s doctor. The keep momming initiative can help moms learn about ADHD and provide ideas on how to spark a conversation and stay connected with their tween.

Check out Holly’s message about how she keeps momming http://goo.gl/MR8HL2, and don’t forget to visit KeepMomming.com.

FutureFood 2050- #sponsored #futurefood2050

Posted by Debra Gray-Elliott at 10:01 AM 0 comments
Disclosure: This is a sponsored post and contains hyperlinks. However, all opinions are my own.

As a parent, I'm concerned about what my family eats. With so many different food products available on the market, sometimes mom's are clueless when it comes to what in the heck are our families really eating!

The folks at the  Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) have been dedicated to advancing the science of food since 1939. Their non-profit scientific society—with more than 18,000 members from more than 100 countries—brings together food scientists, technologists and related professionals from academia, government and industry.

Last Spring IFT launched FutureFood 2050 —a multi-year program highlighting the people and stories leading the efforts for a healthier, safer and better nourished planet that’s needed to feed 9 billion+ people by 2050.  IFT continues to roll out interviews with the world’s most impactful leaders in food and science, and next year watch for FutureFood 2050, the documentary film.

I had a chance to stop by the new website and check out some very interesting articles. As a concerned parent, I want to know what my family is eating and what changes are being made to ensure my family's safety.

One of my biggest concerns is food safety. With so many different food-borne illnesses, it's scary to think my family could get sick from eating a hamburger or a piece of fried chicken. Consumer activist Caroline Smith DeWaal has devoted her life for nearly twenty years to insure the safety of consumers. She has dedicated her career to fighting food-borne illnesses by documenting them and advocating for faster and stricter reporting standards.  DeWaal is changing the horizon regarding how food is processed. Although, it is an ongoing process and much work needs to be done before no food-borne illnesses exist, DeWall is making a difference one small step at a time. To read her story click here.

Be sure to check FutureFood2050 out and sign up at www.futurefood2050.com to follow the stories and connect science to the conversation on how to feed the planet. As a parent, it's one of the best decisions you can make for your family.

Keep the Kids Safe and Sound During the Summer

Posted by Debra Gray-Elliott at 6:57 AM 0 comments

Summer is right around the corner. Kids are filled with anticipation and parents are filled with dread. How do you keep your child healthy during the summer? Keeping your child well during hot summer months can be daunting, but if you follow these tips, you and your child will have a stress-free, fun-filled summer. You can relax and your kid can be a kid.

The hot summer can bring on a lot of health issues for your child, but the best way to keep them safe and sound is to follow the RULES

  • Remind your kids of summer hazards. The hot summer brings out snakes and a variety of insects. These creatures like to hide in dark places. Kids like to explore where they shouldn't. It's your job as a parent to be on guard. The best way to keep them safe from harm is to remind your child to stop, look, and listen.  Practice these safety habits with your child. Have them stop before they go wandering off into the unknown. Make them look before they leap. Lastly, make your child listen. If he or she is aware of their surroundings, they are less likely to get bitten or stung.

  • Use common sense. Kids are natural born curiosity machines, especially in the summer when they are bored. They want to explore and get into trouble. Keeping your child out of harm's way is a task. You have to teach him or her to use their common sense. Remember, if something doesn't look right, then it will hurt your child.  The best way to protect them from harm is to repeat the warning signs, remind them of danger, and require frequent check-ins.

  • Listen to your child. The best way to keep your child safe and sound during the summer is to listen. Kids will let you know when something isn't right. Their tone changes when they're in danger. Keep your ears open and your child safe.

  • Employ other parents and kids. Form a summer neighborhood watch. More sets of eyes are better than one. If your child is being watched constantly, the less likely he or she will get hurt.

  • Stabilize your child's surroundings. If your child's environment is free from debris and danger, he or she can enjoy their summer without worry. You can breath a sigh of relief. Your main job during the summer is to keep your child safe and sound.
If you are your child follow the RULES, you both will have a stress-free and fun-filled summer.

Dover Educational Book Series Review

Posted by Debra Gray-Elliott at 4:29 PM 0 comments
Disclosure: This is a paid review. However, all opinions are my own.

If you're like me, you're concerned about good quality learning materials for your school-age child. With Dover Educational Book Series you and your child won't have to worry. My 10 year old and I got the opportunity to try two of Dover's educational books and I have to say we were very pleased not only with the quality but the content.

We received two books in the series: BOOST: My First Human Body" and Table Top Scientist: "The Science of Water".

BOOST™: Specially designed for specific grade levels, the Boost series features a wide variety of entertaining and educational books for children. Plus, each title comes with a free Teacher's Manual. Each manual is filled with engaging reading, speaking, listening, and language lessons.

"My First Human Body" is actually a coloring book that uses Common Core Standards. This book is for grades 1-2, but because my grandson is in special ed. this coloring book was the perfect solution to teach him about the human body during Spring Break. The pictures are very detailed as well as the descriptions. Each part of the human body was easy for my grandson to grasp without asking a lot of questions. I loved the aspect of him being able to color the different body parts. Of course he loved coloring everything RED!

"My First Human Body" is available at Dover Publication is soft copy or e-book and a free teacher's manual is available as well.

Table Top Scientist: Encourage young minds to explore the principles of science with this captivating book series of experiments for water, light, air and sound. Simple demonstrations and complete photographs illustrate how to topics. "Try It and See" sidebars suggest further exploration and "How It Works" panels explain scientific ideas.

"The Science of Water" makes experiments FUN! All I can say is I couldn't get my grandson away from the water. From the time he was little he loved to play in the water, but now that he's older he can fully understand the science of water. This book is filled with experiments, projects, and fascinating facts. This one is for grades 5-8. It's not complicated as I thought it might be, my grandson understood the concepts and enjoyed all the neat fun experiments and projects. My kitchen will never be the same and my grandson will never look at H2O the same way!

This fun book is only $6.99 and can be purchased at Dover Publications.

Whether you have a school-age child or want to give them a head start, be sure to check out Dover Educational Books!

My grandson has always been fascinated with how things work, but now he actually loves science thanks to Dover Publications

With a family that's on the go, it's not always easy to stay "Heart Healthy", but Campbell Soup makes it easier and delicious. Staying heart healthy became a priority a few years ago after my husband suffered from severe health problems. I tried to make eating healthy a top priority, but my family didn't like the meals I served. Growing up with Campbell Soup, I knew they were all about "Heart Health" and I could serve my family yummy goodness that was good for they heart as well. My family loves the  "Heart Healthy"  recipes and I love the fact I can serve them something yummy good that's good for them.

Here are a few of our favorite American Heart Association Certified recipes plus great coupons and special offer for you. Enjoy!

Here's a list of great coupons and special offers so you can get the Campbells money saving coupons.
