Today's
cartoon characters are geared toward a different generation than
twenty years ago, creating a pop culture craze not just with kids but
adults as well. Animated cartoon characters have become iconic in
the popular culture world. From “SpongeBob Squarepants” to “The
Simpsons”, a child cannot turn on the television without being
bombarded with either. These two cartoons along with similar cartoons
are so popular there both have full length movies, lunch boxes, and a
variety of merchandise geared toward children. What does this say
about the way society views these type of cartoons?
Popular
culture views these type of animated cartoon characters as heroes.
However, I think it is more popular culture hype. Kids as well as
adults are drawn into a make believe world that is made to feel like
reality, especially animated cartoons such as The Simpsons. Parents
have to ask what value do today's animated cartoons such as
“SpongeBob SquarePants” or “Superheroes” have in popular
culture or society?
